Woodland shade gardening with a purpose – pleasure, creativity, rainwater collection!

Why The North (rainwater) River needs a dam

In reference to today’s earlier post, showing the dam built on the north side of my gardens, please view this video, filmed during a downpour of rain.  Because of the deluge of rain, and lightning, this was filmed through a window screen.

Notice the butterfly flying during this heavy rain!  This was the first time I ever saw this happen.

Notice the quantity and moving force of the rainwater coming underneath the gate, and you will realize why this dam is important in this area.  It will also enlighten you to how much water can be harvested, and put to better use, in rain barrels and rain gardens.  You may have some ideas for rainwater harvest and re-use on your own property.
